How to Use Webpage Summaries on Your Fire Tablet?

Last updated on: January 6, 2025, first published on: December 14, 2024 Leave a Comment

How to Use Webpage Summaries on Your Fire Tablet?

Among the three generative AI features available for Fire tablets, the Webpage Summaries feature stands out as the most widely accessible.

This Fire tablet how-to guide explains what the Webpage Summaries feature is, how to use the Webpage Summaries on your Fire tablet, and its availability on Fire tablet models. FAQs related to this feature are also answered in the guide.

You may check other guides on how to use the other two generative AI features: Wallpaper Creator and Writing Assist.

What is the Webpage Summaries feature?

With the release of the Fire HD 8 2024, Amazon announced three generative AI features:

  • Webpage Summaries to help you quickly get essential info on a webpage with the Silk browser.
  • Wallpaper Creator to help you create some unique wallpapers for Fire tablets.
  • Writing Assist to help you improve your writing in many apps.

In a nutshell, the Webpage Summaries can help you summarize the key points of a webpage, especially for long articles. This can save you a lot of time because many articles are usually too long and wordy.

Because the summary is created with generative AI, occasionally, hallucinations may be spotted for some articles that are too hard to understand (e.g., too technical or not well-written).

Which Fire tablet supports Webpage Summaries?

Among the three generative AI features, the Webpage Summaries has the highest availability. It is available on Fire HD 8 (2018 or later), Fire HD 10 (2019 or later), and Fire Max 11 (2023):

  • Fire HD 8 2018 (8th Gen)
  • Fire HD 8 2020 (10th Gen)
  • Fire HD 8 Plus 2020 (10th Gen)
  • Fire HD 8 2022 (12th Gen)
  • Fire HD 8 Plus 2022 (12th Gen)
  • Fire HD 8 2024 (12th Gen)
  • Fire HD 10 2019 (9th Gen)
  • Fire HD 10 2021 (11th Gen)
  • Fire HD 10 Plus 2021 (11th Gen)
  • Fire HD 10 2023 (13th Gen)
  • Fire Max 11 (2023)

Please note that generative AI features are currently unavailable on Fire 7, including Fire 7 2022 (12th Gen) and Fire 7 2019 (9th Gen).… Read the rest

Everything about Fire OS 8

Everything about Fire OS 8

Fire OS 8 is the latest (2022) Operating System (OS) for Fire tablets. It was announced on May 18, 2022.

This Fire tablet how-to guide explains everything you need to know about Fire OS 8: relation to Android versions, new features (and how to use them), supported devices, and about sideloading Google Play Store.

This guide applies to all models (standard, Kids, Kids Pro, Plus) of Fire 7 2022 (12th Gen), Fire HD 8 2022 (12th Gen), Fire HD 8 2024 (12th Gen), Fire HD 10 2023 (13th Gen), and Fire Max 11 (2023, 13th Gen).

Relation to Android versions

Fire OS is essentially a fork of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). And each version of Fire OS has parity with a specific version of Android. So, you can run most Android apps on Fire tablets even if they are not available in the Amazon App Store.

Of course, Amazon removed almost all Google services, including Google Play Store, and replaced them with their own offering. Therefore, technically speaking, Google services are NOT supported on Fire tablets. Even worse, Amazon tightened the controls of the Fire OS. It is easy to make Google Play Store and other Google services work on Fire OS 8 (read on).

Unlike previous versions of Fire OS, Fire OS 8 is based on two versions of Android: Android 10 and Android 11. It is unclear why Amazon did not move the whole code base to Android 11. FYI, Fire OS 7 is based on Android 9 (Android Pie).

As the current Android version is Andriod 13, apps that require Android 12 or higher generally cannot run on Fire OS 8. You must be aware of this limitation when sideloading Android apps to Fire tablets.… Read the rest

use the 15 special keys and 11 keyboard shortcuts on the official wireless keyboard for Amazon Fire HD 10 2021 (and Fire HD 10 Plus)

The official wireless keyboard for Amazon Fire HD 10 2021 (and Fire HD 10 Plus) is one of the most useful accessories if you need to type a lot on the Fire HD 10 tablet. But some owners are confused about the 15 special keys and are not aware of the keyboard shortcuts that can improve their productivity greatly.

This Fire tablet how-to guide explains the meaning and usage of the 15 special keys on the official wireless keyboard for Amazon Fire HD 10 2021 (and Fire HD 10 Plus). The available keyboard shortcuts are also explained to help you improve your productivity.

If you want to know how to pair or configure the keyboard, please check this guide.

You may check Fire Tablet Buyers' Guide to see whether you should buy the Bluetooth keyboard as a productivity bundle.

Fire HD 10 2023 (13th Gen) also has a similar official keyboard cover, which works identically to the one for Fire HD 10 2021. However, due to the differences in dimensions, you cannot fit the keyboard case for Fire HD 10 2021 with Fire HD 10 2023. And vice versa. So, this guide also works for Fire HD 10 2023 (13th Gen). The Fire Max 11 keyboard case also share the same 15 special keys (shortcut keys).

What are the 15 special keys on the official wireless keyboard for Amazon Fire HD 10 2021 (and Fire HD 10 Plus)?

There are 15 special keys on the official wireless keyboard for Amazon Fire HD 10 2021 (and Fire HD 10 Plus). 13 of them are located in the top row, and the other two are left to the space bar, as illustrated below.… Read the rest

Video guide: how to sideload Android apps in Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX?

sideload_android_apps_kindle_fireCan I run Android Apps on Kindle Fire tablets?

You may already know that Kindle Fire tablet (Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX) actually is an Android tablet. The Fire OS 3 in the new Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX 7 and Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 actually is based on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.

Of course, Amazon hacked Android so heavily that it is hard to find any traces of Jelly Bean in the UI. But this does not mean you cannot install Android apps, for example, from Google Play Store.

Amazon Appstore for Android has a decent collection of apps that are compatible with most Android devices. Similarly, most Android apps can work on Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX tablets without any modifications.

So, the answer is very clear. Yes, you can run almost all Android apps in Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX.

Why sideload Android apps in Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX?

Currently, Amazon Appstore for Android still has far fewer apps than Google Play store. Sometimes, you may need some apps that are available in Google Play, but are not available in Amazon Appstore.… Read the rest
